The two new self-proclaimed alphas find suitable territory to start a family of their own. The long, drawn-out howl of a ‘lone wolf’ will hopefully attract another unattached wolf. When wolves become adolescents and have reached sexual maturity, many will leave their home territory in order to search for a mate. The omega serves as both a stress-reliever and instigator of play. The omega lives on the outskirts of the pack, usually eating last. An omega wolf can be either male or female and is the scapegoat, the lowest ranking member of the pack. The rest of the pack is typically composed of adolescent wolves, one to four years old, several pups and an omega. When adults return from the hunt, the pups lick the muzzles of the adult animals, and the wolves regurgitate predigested food for the young pups.Īs the pups grow, some of them will be very assertive in their play, while others in the same litter will be weaker and more submissive. The young wolves remain at rendezvous sites while the adults hunt the surrounding countryside.
It is believed that the pups are between eight and ten weeks old when the den is abandoned. At the end of the tunnel is an enlarged chamber where the newborn pups are kept. Dens are typically tunnels that extend six to fourteen feet into the earth. They prefer their den sites to be located on elevated areas near water. Pregnant female wolves usually dig dens themselves, often as early as three weeks before the pups are born. For their safety, wolf pups are born in a den. They are deaf, blind, have little or no sense of smell and cannot regulate their own body heat. The average litter size is four pups.Īt birth, wolf pups weigh about one pound and are darkly furred. They like to follow rather than lead and are content with their role. The entire pack takes a part in raising the young. The key difference between alpha, beta, omega is that while alpha males are the leaders and don’t lack confidence, beta males are the quiet, loyal followers. They typically are the only wolves in a pack to mate and produce pups, however in areas where prey is abundant and life is mostly stress-free, multiple litters within a pack can occur. Each year, Beta Sigma hosts ‘Let’s Taco Bout It,’ an event where members invite students to enjoy a nice meal and hear music at the Alpha Chi house with the goal of raising money for DVA. The women in Alpha Chi Omega continuously volunteer within Project Safe, a nonprofit organization working to end domestic violence through crisis intervention, supportive services, and prevention and education. GO DAWGS!Īlpha Chi’s national philanthropy is Domestic Violence Awareness. In addition to being team ambassadors, Alpha Chi cheers on the Dawgs every Saturday during football season. Alpha Chi sisters support UGA athletics by volunteering in programs such as Deck Dawgs, UGA Gameday Hosts, Diamond Darlings, and Hoop Girls. Several members are also involved in academic, leadership and honor societies including SGA. Many sisters hold leadership positions, including Executive Director positions, among UGA’s largest philanthropy organizations such as Relay for Life, HEROs, and UGA Miracle. The sisters of Alpha Chi Omega pride themselves on being actively involved on UGA’s campus. The Beta Sigma Chapter at the University of Georgia has been honored as one of the top Alpha Chi Omega chapters in the nation for over a Their badge, the Grecian lyre, represents the musical talents of its founders and their dedication to the arts. “Together let us seek the heights” is the motto that Alpha Chi Omega chapters strive to emulate in order to succeed as sisters.
